Debra Babcock

36 Colorado Blvd

“Though I received a BFA in painting from the San Francisco Art Institute years ago, for many years, my work in the healing arts and as a writer has often occurred in journals, where I draw, write, and sketch. Before moving to Orcas Island, I wrote a blog called “Dune Shack Dharma, the blog of Dr. Debra Babcock: Making Art Out of Everyday Life and Getting Healthy in the Process,” for many years. Since moving to Orcas, and eventually into my first and now second studio, I have been fortunate to be able to live as a mostly full-time artist/writer, in the deeply contemplative and transformative path of art-making, called Intentional Creativity, developed by painter and teacher Shiloh Sophia. This method of working, coupled with the community of women artists worldwide practicing, sharing, and teaching others to recognize the importance of our stories, insights, and wisdom, is, for me, an answer to a deep longing. I believe the world desperately needs each of our brave hearts, all of the most authentic truths we can access, our creative and intrepid curiosity, and the realization that we are not meant to take this journey alone. We are all creators, creating all the time, whether we are cognizant of that or not. All of these paintings, books, and drawings were created from 2021-2023. The paintings are acrylic on canvas, and range in size from 18”x24” to 36”x48”. The books and journals range in size and medium.”
