My Process
As a porcelain clay artist I use various methods to create my work. I use a slab roller as the base for most of my tile and dish work. Tiles are cut out of slabs, and then they are then carved or pressed with rollers I have made. I use real leaves, rocks, shells and anything else nature has to offer to imprint the porcelain. Once they have dried, which can take a week or so depending on the time of year, they go into their first firing. In order to reproduce some of my tiles, I make plaster molds that can be used multiple times. Then it’s time for glazing and re-firing, after which the tiles are ready to be installed in the creations for which they were designed. Some of my mirror and table work is done in the mosaic style. I fuse glass pieces and tumble rocks, Using underglazes I screen print my own designs and some commercially available art directly onto onto tiles I have made.
