Mary Jane Elgin

205 Myers St

“Clay is my vehicle for redefining the empty space in front of me, for materializing a thought and bringing substance to a vision. The relationship of form, the tension and interaction between the exterior and interior spaces of a piece intrigues me. I cut through my pieces allowing the spaces to bleed into each other, reveling a complex and fresh new balance." Mary Jane grew up embracing the forms of the Craftsman Style surrounding her. Later she studied art in Japan, absorbing the subtlety and balance of the Asian esthetic. Now the nature on Orcas Island is her inspiration.
