I have worked directly with birds most of my life. I utilize my intimate knowledge of birds to capture their essence to represent them in my paintings. My intent is to spark interest in birds to promote their conservation. I layer thin glazes of transparent oil paint to generate luxurious hues and textures. As light penetrates the painting, each transparent layer allows colors from below to reflect and combine with the hues on top to create a rich, deeply radiant quality. From a distance the painting exhibits homogenous tints, but upon close inspection rainbows of color are revealed. I strive to bring life and personality to my bird subjects, by focusing on their uniqueness and allowing the viewer to witness a special part of their daily life.
