“All of my work is made on the wheel with stoneware or porcelain and fired in a gas kiln in light reduction. I draw design inspiration from my Scandinavian heritage, with an emphasis on simplicity and functionality. As someone who loves being in nature, I’m continually influenced by the colors and textures of the island landscape, which has been my home for over 10 years. I’m currently fascinated with throwing taller and thinner forms, connecting to the clay as it spirals upwards in a delicate balance with inertia. After five years of making pottery, I’m still amazed that a solid and functional object can be created from dust and water by simply applying heat. This transformational process, perfected over centuries of human civilization around the world, is such a humbling way of connecting to our shared human history. It is my hope that these pieces live with their owner daily, beside them with their morning coffee or at a dinner table surrounded by friends and family. Clay has a way of molding you as you mold it. It has brought me more patience, humility, and resilience, which I hope to pass on through my work.”
